本来只是想要给官员们看看,不过后来想想都拿出来看看就是,play for fun,play for uber。呵呵
这篇文章的背景是我在EQ中的第一个公会,DM(Dark Moon)是一个纯粹的family guild,从我对论坛上的帖子的理解,就是和我们现在这里以前差不多,无忧无虑,大家组队杀杀怪,聊聊天。公会频道充满的是互相关心的温情。那个时候由于大家级别都不高,所以并没有考虑什么raid,什么装备,那个时候是纯粹的游戏。
不过后来情况有所变化,越来越多的人到了满级,同时服务器上面的纯uber公会也开始一个又一个的打下boss,得到了我们无法企及的装备。于是,开始一个又一个的人离开了去了那些个raid公会。为了改变这种状况,DM开始也进行一些raid。但是由于能力经验的差距,和等级参差不齐,导致一个boss我们用了40多个人连续杀了1下午+一晚上一直CR,而最刺激人的是后来大公会只动用了很少的力量一次杀了boss(EQ中boss不是副本,都是共享资源)。这次事件直接导致了公会崩盘,大量满级会员离开。DM的失败在哪里?我们后来一部分尚且有坚持的满级会员和接近满级会员作出了一个痛苦的决定,组成新的公会脱离母体DM成立了新的公会SA,也就是为人所不齿的抛弃了低等级会员,但是也不完全是抛弃了,所有到达级别要求的DM会员,只要愿意就可以无条件加入SA。新会长是一个管理天才,是我在EQ中国那么多风云人物中最为敬佩的一个。这篇文章是他在SA成立之初对DM的日子的一个总结:
It is very sad to see DM to get to where it is today, and I feel deeply sorry for the few who are still trying their best to save DM. However, in some sense, DM's destiny is unavoidable.
DM was trying to do too many things at the same time, a mission impossible for a guide that is not very big. On one side, DM wants to be a guild which can help newbie grow and be something like home to its members. On the other hand, DM also wants to get fame and reputation by successful raid, big action, etc. EQ is game and a guild is not a business. Still, there is something in common. Looking at the business world, there are very few family-run companies that can be sucessful after a long time period and many eventually turned into professional management. Why? Confliction of interest. Home is a place where one can relax and decipline is nowhere near the top of priority list for a home to be good and comfortable. Everybody has much higher tolearance towards their family members and misbahavoir to certain extent will not be punished. All these will turn fatal if a business is run like a household.
DM was in the same situation. It looks like DM started as a place where friends can hang together. However, with its growth and some members getting to high level, some players started to pursue something more ambitious. That, actually was the turning point for a guild to continue growing. Unfortunately, due to lack of time and experience, the officers of DM did not come up with a proper lan for future development. Unfortunately, its principle has since swung between the two extreme. And each swing consequently caused some memembers who believed otherwise to leave. Although it is sad to see old memebers leaving, it is not a bad thing indeed. In EQ, friend and guild should be considered as two completely different things. All memebers of a guild should believe the same thing, which is the principle of the guild. If they don't support the way one guild is operating or pursuing, then indeed, they should leave and find a guild that suits their objectives. That, in no way means people with different belief cannot be friends or play together. If DM had stuck to its dream, some members may still have left but everyone who stayed would have been much better off. At least, we would know where our future lies and since one stayed because he/she always believes in this future we can all work together towards it. Uncertainty is one of the things that has caused DM's failure.
In less a week of time, DM will be a name only to be found in history. Maybe one day all those legendaries accompolished by the founders of DM will be lost. Sad as it is, this is also the perfect opportunity for something new to reborn from the ashes. If the officers of the new guild do not think about its future carefully, something similar may once again happen, no matter everybody likes it or not.
Is it possible for a guild to accomodate players with different playing styles? Yes. But good planning and organization is a must. One way to do it is to have different sub-divisions under one guild, with each sub-division having their own emphasis and disciplines accordingly. For example, not being on time is something that should be punished for a division that focus on raid or rapidly increasing levels but no big deal for a division that ventures to some places for fun only.
The new guild SA has a very clear objective - a gathering of high level player for sucessful raid or difficult task. To achieve this objective, very strict rules are necessary to guarantee its sucess. At times these rules may seem sturbborn and unreasonable, but in the long run the impact will be more and more obvious.
Since many SA memebers came from DM, and still have a soft spot for DM, there might be a chance for SA and the new guild after the merger of DM and the other two guilds. All the members of the new guild who just prefer a relaxing enviorment and occasionally participate in some organized action can continue their preferred way. While those who take it seriously and have a eventual goal of best equipment/strongest character can group together and try to increase their levels as fast as possible. Once they get to 55 level, if they like the idea of SA they can apply for SA. In return, SA can provide some service to this guild on a regular basis, such as providing help for smaller raid, some good but not ultimate equipment for players below 55 level.
It is up to the officers of the new guild whether they like it or not. But if by any chance they like this option, there is one thing that everyone needs to remember. For this guild, big raid is not their goal and they should not complain if SA considers some raid is out of their capability and decides not to support. For SA, once commited to regular help, we cannot complain about it, even if their effectiveness etc. are not up to our standard.
I am currently collecting opinions within SA regarding this proposal. Meanwhile, I would like to ask your opinion as well. If you (members of the new guild) don't like it then we can talk about other options for some kind of collaboration. At last, but definitely not the least, no matter what we will still be friends.
事情的后来,SA最后发展成为服务器上第三的精英型公会,但是最后死于合并服务器之后的GM团,这是后话。如果EQ是一个副本boss游戏,那么SA会过得很滋润。因为它很好的理解了pff和pfu。其实何谓fun,就是开心而已。raid只是wow生活的一部分而不是全部。当然它是机械重复劳动,是枯燥的,而raid的时候,就是需要完全摒弃pff的态度,要认真负责的用uber的态度要求自己不出任何一点问题,否则,就是对整个raid团队其他39人的不负责任。而在raid之外,我们就应该是一个温暖的家庭,公会频道里面应该有聊天打屁甚至可以开成人频道(玩笑)。而对于组队,就应该抱着耐心的态度。如果急功近利,那么只能让我们公会走上dark moon的后尘。

SA是一个raid导向的精英团队,我觉得我们可以往这个方面发展。Uber公会并不是摒弃温情,公会有没有情趣不是看公会的类型,而是看官员的管理手段和会员对Pff和PFU的理解,对游戏的理解。SA的日子,我体会到的是,直到大家最后一起死,我们都是团结的。平时有做重复机械劳动的raid,但是也有很多别的七彩缤纷的活动,真实生活里面我们也经常聚会。所以,能否在公会中得到快乐,不是取决于公会的制度和类型,而是看你的心在什么地方。
P。S。 以前也有很多黑手,还有一个著名的霉星,号称他AFK回来,服务器就要down一次表示对他的欢迎。他开的named都不掉东西。。。。。
